Michael Berkowitz, Professor, Department of Hebrew & Jewish Studies, University College London, is one of the leading historians of modern Jewry. The last student of the great historian George Mosse, he is the author of Zionist Culture and West European Jewry before the First World War (1993), Western Jewry and the Zionist Project, 1914-1933 (1997), The Jewish Self-Image: American and British Perspectives, 1881-1939 (2000), and, most recently, The Crime of My Very Existence: Nazism and the Myth of Jewish Criminality (2007). He is currently at work on a book on Jews and photography.
