Judaism in the Public Square: Conflicts Over Urban Space from Antiquity to the Present

Charlotte Elisheva Fonrobert, Associate Professor of Religious Studies at Stanford University, is among the world’s leading young scholars in the field of Rabbinics. An expert in Talmudic literature and culture, her interests include gender in Jewish culture, the relationship between Judaism and Christianity in Late Antiquity, and the connection between religion and space. She is the author of the widely acclaimed book Menstrual Purity: Rabbinic and Christian Reconstructions of Biblical Gender (Stanford University Press, 2000) and the co-editor of the Cambridge Companion to Rabbinic Literature (Cambridge University Press, 2007).
