David Biale is the Emanuel Ringelblum Professor of Jewish History at the University of California, Davis. One of the world's leading Jewish historians, he is the author of Gershom Scholem: Kabbalah and Counter-History (1979), Power & Powerlessness in Jewish History (1986), Eros and the Jews: From Biblical Israel to Contemporary America (1992), and Blood and Belief: The Circulation of a Symbol Between Jews and Christians (2007). In addition, he has edited the three-volume Cultures of the Jews: A New History (2002-2006) and co-edited Insider/Outsider: American Jews and Multiculturalism (1998). He is currently completing a book on Jewish secular thought and is editing the Judaism section of the Norton Anthology of World Religions.
